The Liftpac was an indoor compactor originally built in Oklahoma. It was a decent product with a strong following, and in its day it was a considerable competitor of Global Trash Solutions. Eventually, however, Liftpac went out of business. The brand was bought by Red Devil Manufacturing, and for about five years, Red Devil produced the indoor compactor under its original name—the Liftpac. By 2014, however, Red Devil Manufacturing underwent its own rebranding and the Liftpac died altogether. (more…)

Have you noticed a rise in your trash bill, but you thought that it was a set price? Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence with trash haulers. When haulers set rates in their contracts, they are typically supposed to remain static for at least a year at a time. However, many times the hauler will increase the pricing before the contract allows them to. In some cases, the base rate itself does not increase but the percentage fees they charge do. Global Trash Solutions (GTS), incorporated in 2008, is now a leader in compactor production with products like the GTS2000. This revolutionary machine is known as the world’s best indoor trash compactor, but it is not the company’s first product. The company initially produced the GTS1000 compactor, targeting QSRs (quick serve restaurants) like McDonald’s. According to Peter Spano, the company’s founder, “We realized right away that we had a great business concept on our hands. The way waste haulers charge is by volume of trash produced, not weight, but size. We knew if we could reduce the size of the trash produced, we could reduce the number of pick-ups, and, therefore, reduce the price for our clients.” (more…)

We got a call this winter from the Cincinnati Metro Housing Authority for compactor repair. They have 12 sites throughout the city and each site uses a compactor. Easy peasy, we thought. We’ll just dispatch a technician and take care of them. Well, that’s when the conversation got interesting. Not only did the the Housing Authority need all 12 compactors serviced and cleaned in 3 BUSINESS DAYS, but to compound the challenge, each of the 12 sites used a different make, model and age of compactor! While waste balers and compactors are great pieces of equipment to have on hand to help better manage large volumes of cardboard, recyclables, and other types of waste, they can be dangerous when they are not operated correctly. Did you know that the largest source of waste produced by people and businesses is cardboard? Even with an increase in recycling awareness and programs, a large amount of cardboard is still tossed into the trash every single day. Once cardboard has come into contact with other waste materials, like certain types of liquids, biological waste, or food, it can no longer by reclaimed and reused. Instead, it ends up in landfills and other disposal sites. (more…)

Recycling balers are typically classified into one of two generalized categories: vertical or horizontal. Both types help compact a diverse range of materials for recycling purposes and help reduce the amount of space required for storing materials until they are shipped. In addition to being found at recycling centers, businesses have started to discover using balers can lead to a potential source of income and/or tax benefits when they obtain balers through their waste management consultant.
